A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, the Chartered Global Management Accountants, and the Association for Project Management, Ian was educated at Coventry University, Manchester Business School and Oxford Saïd Business School.
He has spent a large part of his career in the areas of major change, financial management and strategic planning. In recent times, Ian led an award winning transformation programme – one of the largest of its kind in UK industry, impacting on over 140,000 people across Royal Mail’s UK Operation. Key achievements included successfully installing over 650 state of the art letter sorting machines, reducing the buildings footprint for mail sortation by half, and introducing modern working practices into parts of the Royal Mail delivery operation, including the effective deployment of over 71,000 digital handheld devices, supporting both commercial and operational needs. All of this enabled a headcount reduction of over 22,000 people over a four year period, supporting revenue growth, cost transformation and the financial stability of the Royal Mail Group.
In his current role as Chief of Staff for the Letters and Network division of Royal Mail, Ian acts as a confidante, gate-keeper and top-level advisor to the Managing Director / Chief Operating Officer on all areas of responsibility, including strategic advice, business planning and leadership across the division. The role also extends to leading a professional portfolio, programme and project management resource that currently exceeds 500 people.
Ian also acts in an advisory capacity to Career Ready, CASS Business School and The Romero Academy in Coventry. Until recently, Ian was the non-executive chairman of National Design Consultancy 2000 Ltd – a UK based company providing building engineering services to the public and private sectors.
