Rent Arrears

David Salter fell behind with his rent when he was on sick leave and waiting for an operation, which was cancelled twice. The half pay he had been receiving had ceased, and whilst he was waiting to hear if he was entitled to benefits, his income was nil. This meant that not only was he trying to cope with his illness, he had the added stress of the fear of losing his home.

We paid his rent arrears.

Karl Zalman - ‘Rowland Hill helped me get back on my feet’

Karl Zalman, a Postman at Jubilee Mail Centre, received help from the RowlandKarl Zalman Hill Fund after cancer spread to his liver.

"I’ve worked for Royal Mail for 27 years," says Karl. "When I was first diagnosed with cancer I had to have time off work and money became tight with children to support and travel backwards and forwards to the hospital for treatment. Then they found it had spread to my liver and everything has been a struggle."

Karl had taken out a bank loan and hoped that he would be able to catch up with financial commitments. "Going back onto sick pay made that impossible," he says. "I applied to Rowland Hill and they helped me get back on my feet. Now I’ve moved home and hope I will be able to get well again and back to work."
